On March 18, 1212, Clare escaped from her home to join Saint Francis and his followers. She found refuge at the San Damiano monastery, where she established the first community of women known as the Poor Clares. Throughout her life, Clare faced numerous challenges, including opposition from her family and attempts to force her back into a life of luxury. Saint Clare passed away on August 11, 1253. Shortly after her death, she was canonized by Pope Alexander IV in 1255. Her legacy continues to thrive, as her order has grown and spread across the globe, emphasizing the importance of community, prayer, and service.
