The Divine Mercy Chaplet is a profound Catholic devotion that emphasizes God’s mercy. It was revealed to Saint Faustina Kowalska through divine visions.
History and meaning
The Divine Mercy Chaplet is a significant prayer in the Catholic tradition, rooted in the revelations of Jesus to Saint Faustina Kowalska. Kowalska, a Polish nun canonized by Pope John Paul II in 2000, received this devotion during her mystical experiences, where Jesus shared His desire for mercy towards humanity. The chaplet is prayed using a rosary and consists of specific prayers that reflect on the mercy of God. The chaplet emphasizes trust in God’s mercy and includes promises made by Jesus regarding those who recite it faithfully. It serves as a reminder of the importance of compassion and forgiveness, inviting believers to seek God’s mercy in their lives and to extend that mercy to others.
When to pray
The chaplet can be prayed during times of distress, for the dying, or whenever one seeks God’s mercy. It is also appropriate for personal prayer or communal gatherings.

Eternal God, in whom mercy is endless and the treasure of compassion inexhaustible, look kindly upon us and increase Your mercy in us, that in difficult moments we might not despair nor become despondent, but with great confidence submit ourselves to Your holy will, which is love and mercy itself.

On the Our Father bead: Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name; Thy kingdom come; Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
On the Hail Mary beads: Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee; blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death, Amen.
Then say ten times on the Hail Mary beads: For the sake of His sorrowful Passion, have mercy on us and on the whole world.
Then say: Eternal Father, I offer You the Body and Blood, Soul and Divinity of Your dearly beloved Son, Our Lord Jesus Christ, in atonement for our sins and those of the whole world.
